This original work, "My Reflection" is performed by the composer, Sarah von Leer Chong on her Yamaha G7 grand piano. When Sarah recorded this video she had just regained the use of her left hand. In February 2008, several weeks after undergoing surgery for Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, she developed tingling and numbness in the fingers of her left hand. Over a two week period, the condition rapidly deteriorated to the extent that she lost the use of that hand and the ability to play the piano, which was a shattering development for a concert level pianist. In early March, Sarah began an intensive and comprehensive regime of chiropractic and acupuncture treatments to the spine, wrist, and fingers. In addition, she received three epidural procedures involving the C6 and C7 cervical discs. It is important to note that in conjunction with the treatment, Sarah never allowed herself to consider the possibility that she would not play the piano again. To the contrary, she continually visualized herself playing the piano. Consequently by mid May, her hand had significantly recovered to the degree where she could play light pieces that did not place a great deal of stress on the left hand. It was at this time that this video and "Into The Abyss" was shot. Update:07/03/09 After Sarah posted this video and description in June of 2008, she suffered a setback two months later in August of that same year.
